Not sure if I'm loving this...

So I finished my blocks last night and here they are all laid out:

Modern Meadow layout

I see now why it might be kind of important to keep it one color ("Orange Quilt") because I feel like this looks too messy. I tried to just pick fabrics from one color scheme, but I loved them all so much that I ended up with 13 different prints from all over the place! What do you all think? I really don't see myself buying more of this fabric and making more blocks to switch around, but I also don't want to end up with a quilt dud. Even though I may not love this quilt, someone else might (there is a certain someone who needs a Christmas present)... ?

  1. I like it! I think it's cool and the colors work well together. I wonder if maybe your issues with it aren't due to the colors, but the fact that the blocks are wonky. I love wonky blocks, but Modern Meadow is a VERY geometric collection with a LOT of straight lines in it (something I noticed doing my recent MM baby quilt). That can be tricky when you're doing wonky.

But I think it looks nice and that you should stick with it. You might like it better once it's quilted.

Also, FYI, you have no idea how many dead-end projects I have in my sewing room closet. I'm only now getting to the point where most of my projects work out well enough that I'm motivated to finish them! : )

  2. I like it! The white provides a really nice balance with all the cute patterns.

  3. I like it - I like that there's a variety of colors, I feel like it makes my eye move around and see the full quilt. I agree with Lee, you'll probably like it more after you quilt it, and if not...quilts are wonderful gifts! :)

  4. I think you're right, Lee. It's probably the wonkiness. Wonkiness was not on the agenda, but was a last minute decision. The more I look at it and imagine it quilted though, the more I like it. I do need a quilt to gift this Christmas though and thought these fabrics would be perfect for the recipient originally (but didn't want to give them up because they were MINE, ha).
